Do Extinguishers expire?
ABC powder extinguishers require recharging every 6 years. This prevents the powder from clumping together and ensures the extinguishers will operate correctly in the event of an emergency.
How do I know smoke detectors are working?
Majority of smoke detectors connected to a fire alarm system blink periodically to indicate they are properly communicating with the fire alarm panel. Local smoke alarms often have a test button that when used will activate a short test.
Are there different types of extinguishers for different types of fires?
Different type of fires requires different type of extinguishers. For example, class K extinguishers are used for grease fires in a kitchen. This chart shows you which extinguisher to use.
How long does emergency lighting stay on in a power out?
This can change depending on the occupancy class of the building, for office, mercantile and residential applications emergency lighting packs are required to illuminate a path to exit the building for 30 minutes.
Will smoke set off a fire sprinkler system?
Thankfully they do not. If you burn toast you may run the risk of setting off a smoke detector, but fire sprinkler heads work more like heat detector.
